Writer Lang Li's Lecture "The Growth Journey of the Canadian Women Writers Association" Successfully Held

(Huawen Net, Toronto News) The Toronto Chinese Writers Association collaborated with the Canadian Chinese Seniors Research and Education Centre to host a lecture at the Seniors' Tea House. Recently, they jointly presented a literary lecture by author Lang Li, titled "The Growth Journey of the Canadian Women Writers Association," which was successfully held online via video conference, connecting Toronto, Vancouver, and various locations around the world.
The host for this lecture is Yan Fei, president of the Canadian Chinese Writers Association and also the writer Yan Daxia. Participants came from all over. Professor Guo Xibo and Professor Zhang Weiguo of the Canadian Chinese Senior Education and Research Center gave opening remarks. Yan Daxia introduced the main speaker, Lang Li: Lang Li is currently a director of the Canadian Chinese Writers Association and president of the Canadian Women Writers Association. Lang Li graduated from the Class of '77 in the Medical Department of China Medical University. In 1988, she came to Canada as a陪读 (accompanied a student). She has experienced working odd jobs, studying abroad, doing business, and writing. She worked as a real estate agent in Vancouver for 25 years and received a lifetime achievement award. She began writing in 2017 and published the full-length non-fiction novel "Lang Gege's Vancouver Real Estate Diary" in 2018, followed by the collection of short and medium-length stories "Letting Go" in 2021. Her essays, poems, and short stories have been published in various Chinese media. Her works have been included in "Forty Years of Home and Country" by Zhejiang Literature and Art Publishing House, "Wen Zong" in Hong Kong, and "Selected Works of North American Chinese Writers" in the United States.
The two-hour lecture, delivered with passion and eloquence by Lang Li, recounted the establishment process and related stories of the Canadian Women Writers Association. She introduced the association's members, such as Mu Rong Situ, Song Yu, Sun Yongmei, Xie Yan, He Lei, Zhang Luxia, Du Peng, and others (for a complete list, please refer to the appendix at the end of this report, "Lang Li's Lecture Manuscript: The Growth Process of the Women Writers Association"). Lang Li spoke with deep affection for each member, presenting them in her predetermined order, as if cherishing precious gems. She discussed their literary achievements, life experiences, interesting anecdotes, and their influence in both Chinese and international literary circles. Without the use of slides or PPT, Lang Li's lecture was spontaneous and highly engaging. During the lecture, Lang Li also shared her own literary journey and spoke about every contributor to the establishment and growth of the Canadian Women Writers Association. Towards the end of the lecture, during the interactive session, the host, Yan Da Xia, guided the audience's participation. Prominent figures such as the renowned Longfeng expert and writer Pang Jin, scholar Professor Peng Yanbin, and some of the women writers took turns speaking, sharing their perspectives, feelings, and reflections.
This lecture is part of a series of lectures jointly organized by the Chinese Writers Society of Canada and the Canadian Elder Chinese Research and Education Centre. The Chinese Writers Society of Canada (CWSC) is a non-profit organization registered in Canada, with the aim of uniting writers in Canada who write in Chinese. The Canadian Elder Chinese Research and Education Centre was established based on the WeChat group "Elderly Tea Room," initiated by Professor Wei Guo Zhang of the Department of Sociology at the University of Toronto. It aims to promote lifelong learning, research, and explore the paths to happiness for Chinese elders. Its mission is to serve the Chinese elder community in Canada, dedicated to caring for and developing the physical and mental well-being of Chinese elders in Canada, improving the quality of life for Chinese seniors, and creating harmonious elder communities.
This series of lectures consists of four sessions: "Dragons and Chinese Civilization," a lecture on dragon culture by writer Pang Jin; "Leading Figures in Contemporary Chinese Literature," a literature lecture by Yan Daxia; "The Growth of the Canadian Women Writers' Association," a lecture by writer Lang Li; and "My Experiences Writing My First Novel," a lecture by mid-career powerhouse writer Yan Bo.

 The Canadian Women's Writing Association is a formally registered non-profit organization, established in20181112Registered and incorporated with the Canadian federal government. Its purpose is to unite women writers, promote literary exchange, and draw from the essence of various cultures in Canada, a multicultural country, to reflect and contemplate, thereby creating works of significant historical value.

 Historical turning point for the Women Writers Association:20199Last month, the Women Writers Association, for the first time, invited renowned Chinese female literary expert Professor Wang Hongqi. The association successfully held its first literary seminar in Vancouver. The successful event garnered widespread attention from all walks of life, with nearly a hundred people in attendance, attracting many female friends who love literature to apply for membership.

 Current Vice President Mu Rong Situ, an excellent writer on the JianShu platform. Her participation attracted many excellent female writers from the JianShu platform. Since its inception, the Women Writers Association...20With the influence of Mu Rong Situ's sharing, the Women's Writers Association has attracted members from eight countries across five continents, and the current total number of members is54Name.

 Lang Li, published the non-fiction work "Lang Gege's Vancouver House Selling Diary," which is included in the collections of the University of Michigan, Columbia University, and the University of Toronto.University of British ColumbiaCollected by universities and several libraries in Vancouver. Lang Li's novella collection "Letting Go" has been signed by a well-known Chinese film and television company.

 Song Yu, founding Vice President. Previously a reporter for Canada Metropolis Weekly and LiveHere.ca, specializing in political and community news reporting. Completed the full-length novel "Smiling at the Storm," currently in the process of publication.

 Sun Yongmei, pen name: Xianglian. Director of the Female Writers Association. Published35The lengthy, semi-autobiographical novel "Salvation" has not only caused a huge stir in the Women Writers Association group but also attracted a large number of online fans.

 Zhang Luxia has published her essay collection "Zi Lu Ji," and multiple essays and poems have won awards in competitions. She has received2022China Centennial Contemporary Outstanding Writer (Poet) Award

 Xie Yan, a board member of the Women Writers Association. She founded the renowned Canadian publication "Tian Shi Weekly," and the Women Writers Association's April Sky Garden is based in "Tian Shi Weekly." She has published numerous profound exclusive reports, including: "Exclusive Record: Canada's First Class Action Lawsuit Against the Federal Government." She was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Award.

 He Lei, pen name: Sonia. Director of the Women Writers Association. Won the "Chanyuan Top Prize" at the "Moon in Daylight" Poetry Competition, with judges including renowned writers Lo Fu and Ya Xian. Has published the poetry collection "Slow Ballad in the Wind" and multiple poetry anthologies. Her novel "Chronicles of War" was a bestseller.

 Dupont, pen name:ShirleyVancouver's veteran food columnist, since2019[Starting from the year] has been continuously providing visually rich and beautifully written food introductions for "A Bite of Vancouver," which are deeply loved by readers.

 Guo Xiaojuan, online name:Doctor.. Director of the Women Writers Association. Published the novella "Bauhinia Swaying in the Wind," which was adapted into a stage play by a local Vancouver theater company. She has interviewed numerous women in transnational marriages, writing the "Transnational Marriage Series" from various perspectives, which has been greatly loved by readers. In the last two years, she has begun writing novels.

 Li Qingyu, pen name: Qing Liu. Specializes in poetry and prose. The long narrative prose "The Captain's Story" will be calledCaptainThe dog was written so vividly that it was serialized in Tian Shi Weekly and was deeply loved by readers.

Many of her works have been widely published on platforms such as "Taiwan, Hong Kong Literature Selection," "China Daily," "World Journal," "The China Press," and "Selected Works of Contemporary Chinese Poetry."

 Xie Gang, pen name: Bio An Xiao Wu. Serialized novellas: "I Came for His Money Back Then," "The Vortex Under the Epidemic." Published on Toutiao.50 Tens of thousands of words of stories and essays.  Wang Zhimin, pen name: Ximo. Published the novel "Frosty Leaves Fluttering." It describes a student who studied abroad, returned to China after obtaining a degree, but encountered difficulties. The student then returned to Canada, faced the challenges of the pandemic, and set sail once again.

 Shi Qing, pen name: Qingtian Qingtian. Signed writer for the Youth Writers Association, columnist for "Time Postbox." His novel "Once in a Century" is serialized on Douban Read.

 Liu Dong, pen name: Yù Kòuzi. Slovak writer. Published essay collection "I Live in the Homeland of Moles,"bike"Urban Narratives." The work was published in magazines such as "Huawen Monthly."

 Zhou Lanlan, a German writer. She published the children's illustrated fantasy story "Metamorphosis," by Zhejiang Children's Publishing House.2024Published in [Year]. After its release, it became a bestseller, leading to interviews with multiple media outlets and a contract as a signed author. The story and illustrations were both created by Zhou Lanlan, with the illustrations done in colored pencil by hand.
