Sino-Canadian Writers Association and Jiahua Media Host Film and Literature Seminar and Screening of Film "Under the Shattered Jade Shadow"
(Toronto, Canada - Special Correspondent Bao Bao for Huawen.com) A film and literature seminar, combined with a screening of the short film "Under the Broken Jade Shadow," jointly organized by the Canadian Chinese Writers Association and Jiahua Media, was successfully held on the afternoon of November 22, 2025, at the Better Education Center in Richmond Hill. The seminar and screening were hosted by Yan Fei, the president of the Canadian Chinese Writers Association. Vice presidents of the association, Yan Bo and Pang Jin, and Jiahua Media President Zhou Zhihua attended the event. More than thirty writers, artists, filmmakers, local cultural figures, and literature enthusiasts from the Greater Toronto Area participated in the event. The atmosphere at the venue was enthusiastic and full of intellectual discussion.

The film "Under the Jade Shadow," a production by a local Toronto filmmaking team, was meticulously crafted in Toronto to commemorate the 90th anniversary of Ruan Lingyu's passing. Set against the backdrop of the Republic of China era, the film showcases a unique historical landscape and artistic expression, offering both entertainment value and a rich space for discussion on the crossover between literature and film. Director and lead actor Mr. Chen Zhiguang was present at the event, sharing his creative insights and filming experiences with the audience, which further deepened the engagement and interactivity of the occasion.
During the seminar, the Canadian Chinese Writers Association organized several renowned writers and artists to participate in the exchange. Contemporary writers Yan Fei, Yan Bo, and Pang Jin spoke successively, offering incisive expressions of their perspectives and insights. Poets Yu Zi, Jiang Ni, and Huang Zanyang also delivered impassioned speeches. Prominent media personalities Zhou Zhihua, Chen Rong, Peng Lin, and Cao Fei, along with core members of the Canada-China Writers Association Li Yan, Manduna, Lu Jie, Feng Wenjun, Xiao Li, and Camel, spoke in turn, discussing aspects ranging from literary creation and screenplay conceptualization to cross-cultural expression. They not only offered unique insights based on the film's content but also shared the complementarity and differences between literature and film in narrative techniques. The writers' genuine insights resonated with the director's practical experience, presenting an intellectual and artistic collision for the audience. Through the exchange, the audience deeply felt the close connection between literature and film and recognized the significant importance of cross-disciplinary collaboration in promoting cultural innovation.

Notably, Professor Luo Yangfu, co-founder of Gengyou Education and Principal of Shuangkuai Chinese, provided strong support for this event, offering venue and resource assurance for the smooth running of the seminar.
Jiahua Media's editor-in-chief, Peng Lin, is the initiator of the Toronto Chinese Filmmakers Organization. She is also a professional screenwriter and producer. Having collaborated with the director before, she emphasizes that literary arts should “seek truth, seek reality, and seek integrity.” Therefore, she raised funds from various sources to bring this film to Jiahua Media. A women's film screening was previously held in Mississauga, and with the strong support of the Writers Association, this exclusive salon event was planned. It was made possible through the generous assistance of Luo Yangfu of Gengyou Education. Jiahua Media's president, Zhou Zhihua, played a crucial role in the early planning and preparation, working closely with the Writers Association to ensure every aspect of the event was orderly.

It is precisely the joint efforts of multiple forces that have enabled this literary and film exchange salon to present a high quality and high standard. The event not only showcased the creative achievements of local filmmakers but also built a platform for in-depth dialogue between the literary and media circles, reflecting the value and potential of cross-industry cooperation.
As the screening and discussion of the film came to a successful close, attendees and the audience alike expressed that they had gained a great deal. Not only did they enjoy a short film with immense artistic appeal, but they also broadened their understanding of the relationship between literature and film through the exchange.

This event has injected new vitality into Toronto's local cultural ecosystem and provided inspiration for more cross-industry collaborations in the future. The joint efforts of the Chinese-Canadian Writers Association and Jia Hua Media demonstrate a firm commitment to promoting the integrated development of literature and film. It can be said that this seminar and film screening session was not only a cultural feast but also a successful practice of pooling wisdom and creativity, setting a new benchmark for local literary and film exchange.
