(Toronto, Huawenews) The Chan Shan Monastery of the Buddhist Association of Canada held a media appreciation dinner for the Greater Toronto Area on the evening of January 30, 2026. Forty-two representatives from 34 Chinese-language media outlets in the Greater Toronto Area were invited to attend. The President of the Buddhist Association of Canada, Master Da Yi, delivered a speech at the dinner.<\/p>\n

In his speech, Master Da Yi expressed his sincere gratitude to the media friends who have long paid attention to and supported Chi Lin Nunnery and Canada's Mount Qixia. Media representatives attending the event discussed community responsibility and cultural inheritance, and reviewed the achievements in the construction of Mount Qixia. Master Da Yi stated that the development of Canada's Mount Qixia and the ongoing social service responsibilities undertaken by Chi Lin Nunnery over the past year would not have been possible without the professional recording and dissemination by the media community. \u201cIt is through your pens and lenses that the general public has truly felt the warmth and original intention behind cultural development.\u201d<\/p>\n

In his address, Master Da Yi briefly reviewed the construction progress of the Canadian Mount Wutai over the past year: the wooden archway, a symbolic landmark, has been solemnly completed; the Guanyin Hall and Ksitigarbha Hall have been successfully finished and are ready to be opened; and the retaining wall project for the Manjusri Hall is steadily advancing, laying the foundation for the overall landscape of the future cultural park.<\/p>\n

Master Da Yi introduced that in terms of social services and cultural education, Zhan Shan Monastery continuously offers diverse public welfare projects to the general public, including regular meditation retreats, classic scripture recitations, cultural study and practice activities, as well as visits to nursing homes and community exchange visits, actively promoting physical and mental well-being, cultural understanding, and community cohesion. Simultaneously, the second cohort of students from the Canadian Buddhist Academy has successfully graduated, injecting new vitality into local culture and education.<\/p>\n

Yan Fei, chairman of the Chinese-Canadian Writers Association, interacted cordently with the Most Venerable Master Da Yi on-site, sparking inspiration. He proposed holding an event jointly organized by the Writers Association and the Buddhist Association when spring arrives, believing that the intersection of literature and Buddhism would undoubtedly ignite sparks of wisdom. Master Da Yi fully supported and agreed with Yan Fei's proposal, praising it as a profound endeavor that would help inherit and spread traditional and modern Chinese culture. Master Da Yi responded to Yan Fei by suggesting that writers could be invited to the Canadian Wutai Mountain during the spring or summer for a grand gathering.<\/p>\n

Attending media members highly praised Chan Shan Jing She's social responsibility and cultural commitment. They universally expressed that Chan Shan Jing She's decade-long efforts in community development and the construction of Canada's Mount Wutai have not only provided stable and profound spiritual support for overseas Chinese but have also gradually become a \u201cspiritual home\u201d for many. Over the years, Chan Shan Jing She and Canada's Mount Wutai have made steady progress in cultural development, educational promotion, and public welfare services, with relevant achievements continuously reaching the community's view through Chinese-language media. Media representatives generally agreed that Chan Shan Jing She has consistently focused on cultural education, community care, and public welfare services over the years, gradually evolving into an important platform that integrates spiritual support, cultural inheritance, and social participation. In particular, the Canada's Mount Wutai project is regarded as a symbolic undertaking for the long-term spiritual development of overseas Chinese.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, media outlets have reported that Zhanshan not only focuses on its own development but also actively responds to the needs of the times and the community, offering stable, peaceful, and sustainable spiritual support in a rapidly changing social environment. Because of Zhanshan's long-term commitment to social responsibility, it has gradually become one of the important spiritual and cultural landmarks for overseas Chinese.<\/p>\n

Venerable Master Da Yi pointed out that in the future, the Buddhist Association of Canada and Canada's Mount Wutai will continue to deepen cultural education, community care, and external exchanges. They will also more actively utilize new media platforms and work hand-in-hand with the media to jointly convey rational, compassionate, and positive values to a diverse society. The media is not only a disseminator of information but also an important recorder of cultural communication and community memory. It is precisely through the continuous and objective reporting of the media that more people understand the original intentions, process, social significance, and responsibilities behind the construction of Mount Wutai.\"\"<\/p>\n

The atmosphere at the dinner was lively and engaging, with media friends sharing their observations and feelings about Zhanhuan's development over the past decade. They expressed their anticipation for further deepening exchanges in cultural communication, community reporting, and new media cooperation in the future. Finally, everyone agreed to gather at Zhanhuan on the evening of February 16th to ring in the Year of the Horse and pray for peace and happiness in the new year!<\/p>\n
